More than 40 people were killed and at least 239 were injured in attacks at Ataturk International Airport, Istanbul’s largest airport.

Here is what we know:

  • Three bombers targeted the international terminal of the airport.
  • Turkish officials say the attackers were Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals.
  • The assailants detonated their suicide vests after police opened fire on them. 
  • Nine others suspected of helping the Islamic State have been detained. It is unclear whether they were related to the incident.
  • At least 19 foreign nationals were killed. A majority of the victims were from Turkey.
  • The attackers arrived in a taxi before the attack and there was no lapse in airport security, according to Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
  • CCTV video from the airport appears to show one of the attackers detonating his vest after being shot.
  • Turkey has recently suffered a spate of suicide attacks in Istanbul and Ankara.
