Mark E. Fields, 80, a retired Washington lawyer who specialized in communication law, died Jan. 9 at a hospice in Clermont, Fla. He had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Mr. Fields worked for the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission before entering private practice in 1959. He spent the majority of his career in partnership with Samuel Miller before retiring in 1997.
Mark Edward Fields, a native of Olean, N.Y., was a graduate of Cornell University and its law school. He was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.
He was a past treasurer of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee and the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless. He was a past trustee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington.
He moved to Celebration, Fla., from Arlington in 2009.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Cones Fields of Celebration; three children, David H. Fields of Stamford, Conn., Daniel M. Fields of Framingham, Mass., and Barbara Gutierrez of Ocoee, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
