Well, it’s been one heck of a ride for 19-year-old Ginny Thrasher. Her Olympic quest came to an end on Thursday when she finished one point short of making the final round of the women’s 50-meter 3 position rifle contest. After the second of three positions, Thrasher, who won a gold medal at the women’s 10-meter air rifle on Saturday, was in eighth place, but a sub-par penultimate shot led to the drop in her standings. She finished in 11th place with 581 points.

Thrasher, who is about to enter her sophomore year at West Virginia, wasn’t the only Mountaineer in the running on Thursday. Her West Virginia teammate Petra Zublasing of Italy found more success, landing the top spot in the qualification round with 589 points, a new Olympic record. Zublasing will headline the field in the 50-meter 3 position final that starts at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday.

Thrasher’s American teammate, Sarah Scherer, finished in 33rd place with 570 points.
