Diving: Men’s synchronized 3m springboard gold results

Britain wins diving gold in men’s synchronized 3m springboard with a score of 454.32, beating the United States by 4.11 points. China wins bronze with a score of 443.7 points.

This was the first time since 2004 where a non-Chinese team took home the gold medal. Since its Olympic inception in 2000, Britain had never won a medal in the event.

After the first round, the American duo was in seventh place, but put together a string of high-scoring dives to move into second place. China had the lead after the second round, but fell into second place after the third round. That was the first time over this Olympic games that a Chinese diver had not led the field, regardless of diving discipline.

Brazil, the host country, had a team in the mix. They finished eighth after one of the divers took a knee to the face during the second round. They continued to dive through the event, but their focus had been shattered.
