Poland scored its first gold medal of the Rio Olympics, coming back to edge Britain in women’s double sculls by a little less than a second. The Lithuanian boat took the bronze.

The Polish boat — rowed by Magdalena Fularczyk-Kozlowska and Natalia Madaj — narrowly avoided a disastrous collision with a small fish.

People made Brexit jokes:

Meghan O’Leary and Ellen Tomek, who were searching for the United States’ first-ever medal in the event, finished last among the six finalists.
