O’Malley names Fraser-Hidalgo to take over delegate seat from Montgomery County

David V. Fraser-Hidalgo was appointed Wednesday by Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) to fill a vacant seat representing part of Montgomery County in the Maryland House of Delegates.

Fraser-Hidalgo, a former county police officer, takes over for Brian Feldman, whom O’Malley appointed to the Senate last month to fill a seat left open by the retirement of Sen. Robert J. Garagiola (D-Montgomery).

Garagiola has since joined a law firm with a major lobbying presence in Annapolis.

“We are confident that Mr. Fraser-Hidalgo will serve the people of our State well in his new role,” O’Malley said in a statement Wednesday.

Fraser-Hidalgo’s name was submitted to O’Malley for the District 15 seat by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, as part of a selection process outlined in the state constitution.

His appointment was supported by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Montgomery County, the Hispanic Democratic Club and the Hispanic Business Foundation.
