In this country we are blessed with the freedom to believe. We are free to believe in God; we are free not to believe in God. We are free to believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman. And we are free to believe that marriage is a social, legal contract in which any two individuals may engage.

Who decides what defines a marriage? The people being married, that’s who. No one else makes that choice. And because of the tenets of freedom, equality, liberty, and justice in our Constitution, the government, neither state nor federal, may infringe on those freedoms. All people are equal before the law.
