I hardly ever agree on anything with E.J. Dionne Jr., but his July 4 op-ed column, “A call to service,” hit the right spot. Thank you, Mr. Dionne — you just brought tears to the eyes of this naturalized citizen who loves his adopted country.

I have only one suggestion for the otherwise great “Franklin Project”: Do not impose an age limit. Still fully employed and way beyond the retirement eligibility age, I am looking for this kind of opportunity when I retire, which I hope is soon. Lifting the age limit could serve at least two purposes: One is generational interaction, which would benefit both the young and the not so young. The other is more tangible:Many of us, thanks to the opportunity this country provided us, can afford to serve without being paid.
