The March 1 Sports article “ Virginia’s state of euphoria ” reported that “when Virginia students had to request online to be in the ticket lottery for Saturday’s game against No. 4 Syracuse, half of the more than 14,000 undergraduates on campus overloaded the system and caused the school’s ticketing system to crash.”
In early 1964, I watched Wake Forest play Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference basketball game on TV at my fraternity house at the University of Virginia. At the end of the first half, I decided to go watch the game live. I walked down to the old Memorial Gym and sat down a couple of rows behind Wake Forest’s legendary coach Bones McKinney and watched the remainder of the game. I did not have to wait in line (much less online ) nor show a student ID to gain admittance. Times have changed.
