The April 1 Style feature “The future of reading and writing” was a must-read for all must-writers. However, as I read it, I couldn’t shake the feeling that conversations very much like this one took place 560 years ago, when Gutenberg rolled out his self-published Bible.

“Sure it’s fast, but is it legitimate? Readers today want to know that the incunabulum they’re holding in their hands has been created by a genuine monastic scribe in a reputable scriptorium and that the proper authorities have authenticated the rubrication.”
