Walter Pincus’s April 15 column, “Taking not-so-friendly fire on the home front,” reminded me why I love the Marine Corps and felt honored to have supported it out of the Da Nang and Khe Sanh air bases in Vietnam nearly 50 years ago. Would that others were so courageously straightforward and willing to sacrifice. Would that our commander in chief use the disproportionate burdens carried by service members and their families to shame all Americans into sacrificing for this country. If we can ask those who have given so much to give a little more, why can’t we ask the rest of us, especially the well off, to do the same? Let this Marine point the way.
