Even though I am fascinated by the trial of Maureen and Robert F. McDonnell, I was taken aback by the description of the former first lady of Virginia as someone “who still wears her bangs feathered and her hair below her shoulders,” as if her hairstyle was an indictment on its own [“Crushing the McDonnells’ blame-the-wife strategy,” Style, Aug. 6]. Is there an age limit for women on hair length? Apparently, male politicians get a free pass on their fake tans and dyed hair. Please recognize the insulting sexism in those words.
