Becky Hammon’s becoming the first female assistant coach in the National Basketball Association is not something to be proud of [“Hammon, a Spur who’s a trailblazer,” front page, Aug. 6]. She gave up her U.S. citizenship and became a naturalized citizen of Russia just so she could participate in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

Do the fans of the NBA and the San Antonio Spurs really want to cheer for a person who renounced her American heritage?
