Another David also overcome by lust
David Petraeus is not the first David to allow lust and passion to interfere with duty and honor. A few thousand years ago, Israel’s King David’s wrongs were far greater — including sending Uriah the Hittite to be killed in the front lines so that David could cover up his affair with and impregnation of Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba. Then, as now, there did not appear to be a breach of national security. Nevertheless, the Lord did not allow King David’s sins to go unpunished — causing his love child to die and his son Absalom to rebel against him.
