I am not a kid, unless 84 qualifies, but I always read Fred Bowen in KidsPost and encourage my grandchildren and other kids to do so, too. He says what needs to be said: Playing sports should be fun; winning isn’t everything; teams need subs as well as stars; parents should let kids be kids.
His Thanksgiving Day piece [“Great sports should make us grateful”] was characteristic: Be grateful for exciting players such as Robert Griffin III, Alex Ovechkin, Bryce Harper and John Wall; for the great variety of sports available to watch locally; that there are more sports that kids, including girls, can play today than when I was little.
Thanks to Bowen for giving kids consistently good advice.
