Regarding the Nov. 3 front-page article “Acoustic sensors reveal hidden depth of gun use in D.C.”:

I’m confused. Apparently the ShotSpotter detection system documented 39,000 shooting incidents in the District since 2009. How can this be possible? Doesn’t the District have some of the strictest gun-control laws in the nation? Could it be that the bad guys are ignoring those gun laws and firing guns in violation of the law?

I am thankful I live in Virginia, where I’m allowed to defend myself and my family against those with no regard for the law or the safety of others. Perhaps the District should reconsider its dedication to gun-control laws that leave law-abiding citizens as unarmed victims for those with ill intent.
