Regarding the recent brouhaha over taxicab payment systems [“Cabbies accused of demanding cash,” Metro, Feb. 21]:

What other comparable business is required by legislative mandate to accept credit cards? Why can’t prospective passengers ask if they can pay in the manner they wish and then accept a ride, or not, based on the answer? Let taxi companies decide if the lost business is worth adding the ability to process credit cards. That is called the free market.
