Regarding Paula Rivers’s Nov. 28 letter “Howard County’s tunnel vision”:

This “tunnel vision” has affected more than the schools — it includes overcrowded highways, long emergency room wait times, retail development along parkways, development with zero affordable housing, development in sensitive watersheds and fees in lieu of doing the right thing. All this is ironic because in the middle of Howard County is Columbia, the “next America,” the answer to urban sprawl.

Howard County government has gone its own way instead of embracing our planned community. It has chosen to support developers that want to circumvent our special Columbia Zoning Code. Now I hope our new Howard County Council will reverse this trend and ensure Columbia remains a planned community.
