The Nov. 7 editorial “A defining moment for Virginia Republicans” stated that “federal judges gave Democrats a leg up in this year’s races.” The redistricting ordered by the courts did not give an advantage to the Democrats; it merely corrected for long-standing voter disenfranchisement caused by Republican manipulation of district boundaries resulting in diminution of minority voter representation.

The court-ordered redistricting leveled the playing field. It allowed the will of the voters to be better reflected in Richmond.
