Regarding the May 19 Metro photograph “Feeling pumped to pedal”:

Two observations relating to safe cycling: Lisa Williams is wearing earphones, likely listening to music, and her bicycle lacks mirrors. She is isolated from her surroundings except for what she sees in front of her.

When riding, especially on busy roadways, I always had a rearview mirror and kept my ears free to hear upcoming traffic passing from behind. I would appreciate that The Post (in addition to publishing the helmet comments that have been made previously) convey the safest riding practices. Being fully aware of one’s surroundings is vital to cycling safety.
