In his April 8 letter [“A better way to think about U-Va.’s ‘crisis’ ”], University of Virginia Board of Visitors member Edward D. Miller wrote: “The portrayal of the Board of Visitors’ work as a battle between Rector Helen Dragas and President Teresa Sullivan does a terrible disservice to the full engagement of the board and to the significant issues facing the university and all of higher education.”
The only disservice done to the U-Va. board was not allowing the “crisis” to play itself out to a proper conclusion. It was naive to expect Ms. Sullivan to perform to her potential while working through the person who tried to fire her. U-Va. has spoken. Get out of the way and let Ms. Sullivan lead.
