In his Dec. 30 op-ed, “The power of free money,” Rutger Bregman suggested that poverty can be significantly reduced by giving money to the poor. He illustrated his reasoning with an experiment conducted with a group of 13 homeless individuals. It seems we are already doing that on a macro scale: It’s called quantitative easing, and it appears to be the trickle-down approach to the problem.
