Regarding the Jan. 3 front-page article “D.C. making transition to elder care at home”:
It is fantastic to see that the District is among the leaders in helping people to remain at home rather than enter a nursing home. One seldom hears a person say, “I can’t wait to get to that nursing home.”
People have a right to live where they choose, and in most instances, care at home is more economical than nursing care. Yet actually making it happen is no small feat. As the population ages, community care will be an even more urgent necessity, and the District is providing a valuable model of coordinated policies and services that can support it.
