Robert McCartney’s July 11 Metro column, “A chance to unlock gridlock,” was excellent, but one thing he did not mention that would help reduce congestion is the synchronization of traffic lights. Too many times, a light turns green just as the light ahead is turning red. If traffic lights on main thoroughfares were synchronized, it would do wonders not only in moving traffic along but also in reducing gas use and pollution.
