On Dec. 18, no fewer than four columnists opined on gun control in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre. On Dec. 23, another seven commentators on the Sunday Opinion, op-ed and Outlook pages took on gun control. All offered opinions on what U.S. society should do with gun-control laws.
I believe there should be full disclosure from these authors on whether they own weapons, and if so, how many and what kind. Readers should know whether they are proverbially “putting their money where their mouth is.” If they are to prescribe what our society should do, I should hope they are leading by example.
In the interest of full disclosure, even though I am a retired military officer, I do not own any guns and do not intend to own a gun, nor have I ever owned a gun.
