Opinion Democrats need to get themselves together

Regarding E.J. Dionne Jr.’s Nov. 4 Thursday Opinion column, “Only themselves to blame”:

I am now in the good company of Will Rogers, who said, “I am not a member of any organized party. I am a Democrat.”

The far left of the party is stuck in the Pollyannish belief that it will get Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), two DINOs (Democrats in name only), to go along with the human infrastructure bill, leading even Democrats in Virginia to wonder enough about their party to stay home. (Look at the difference in the number who turned out in Loudoun and Fairfax counties in 2020 vs. 2021!) And then there was Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe’s gaffe at the debate about parents and schools.

I knocked on more than 300 doors to get people out to vote in Northern Virginia, but I will need some sign that the party can get itself together before I’ll do so ever again.

Okay, congressional Democrats. Instead of cooperating with each other months ago, you indulged in your petty grievances. Look what it got you.
