The June 28 Metro article “Metro to run more trains on July 4” contained a cryptic statement that “Officials continue to encourage riders to consider the Metro a last option, even on July 4.”

How do these unnamed “officials” expect people to reach the fireworks? Even when all the streets on and near the Mall are open, parking is almost nonexistent. The idea of driving into downtown Washington on the evening of the fireworks is beyond ludicrous.

The social distancing problem on Metro that the “officials” fear so much will be no worse than in the tightly packed crowd of thousands gathered on the Mall. So why pick on Metro?
