Regarding Dana Milbank’s Dec. 13 Washington Sketch, “Joe Lieberman’s sad send-off”:
Wednesday was a gloomy day for Mr. Lieberman, and Jan. 3 will be a sad day for America when his distinguished career ends. The Connecticut senator has exemplified the political maverick who doesn’t worry about how his colleagues will perceive him or what effect his decisions will have on his future. His status as the man in the middle has become even more palpable as extremists on both sides of the aisle have gained control. Mr. Lieberman represents the hope of bipartisanship in Congress, and his departure leaves a void that will take courage to fill.
