In the July 29 Metro article “Va. developer pushes controversial new road,” developer Robert E. Buchanan rightly told The Post that not building new roads will not stop people from wanting to live and work in the Washington area. However, a new road will do nothing to alleviate the long-term problems.
Until Mr. Buchanan and others start to think of mass transit as the only real solution to our traffic congestion, the problem will worsen. All the roads in the world will do only one thing — make room for more cars and more congestion.
This mind-set of building more roads as a solution to our crowded roads must be corrected before any real progress will be made.
