The Dec. 2 front-page article “Gingrich offers up a bundle of ‘big ideas’ ” reported that Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich wants to “fire federal judges with whom he disagrees” and have “some new laws . . . written so that they cannot be reviewed by the courts.” Yet Republicans love to talk about the importance of constitutional limitations on government power. If Mr. Gingrich seeks to gut the one enforcement mechanism for those rights that has proved effective, he has a burden to propose another mechanism that would work just as well.
