I thoroughly enjoyed the Oct. 18 Metro article “Proud of their ‘oasis.’ ” I have lived in the Chevy Chase “oasis” of Somerset for 57 years, raising three children here. I watched the building of not only Little Falls Parkway but also the swank stores on Wisconsin Avenue, which we call Rodeo Drive East. We value the important restrictions on tree preservation and height limits and tolerate the “mansions” that are replacing the demolished vintage homes because of the great people who become part of this community.
We older residents, at least some of us, have been able to remain in our homes in Somerset because of our wonderful neighbors’ help and the creative work of Zola Dincin Schneider and her Helping Hands organization.
