Regarding the Feb. 28 front-page article “Conservatives press on despite defeat in Arizona”:
Just as the guarantee of freedom of speech does not protect “hate speech,” such as the spraying of swastikas on public buildings, freedom of religion should not protect discrimination against gays and same-sex couples.
I am a Quaker, and I do not support violence in any form. That includes armies and military force. Were I to move to Arizona and run a lunch counter, I wonder if the so-called advocates of religious freedom would support me were I to refuse to serve uniformed members of the military.
