NORTHERN VIRGINIA voters in the 8th Congressional District will go to the polls Tuesday for a Democratic primary to select a nominee to succeed long-time Rep. James P. Moran (D-Va.).
The district, which includes Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington and parts of Fairfax County, is reliably Democratic, so the winner of Tuesday’s contest will be heavily favored to win in November.
It is a crowded field with seven candidates. We have endorsed Don Beyer, believing his eight years as the state’s lieutenant governor and his experience as an ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein gives him a breadth of knowledge straddling domestic policy and foreign affairs that would make him an effective member of Congress.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Polling place information is available from the “Where do I vote?” link on the Virginia State Board of Elections Web site. Voters who need information on the status of their registration should contact their local board of elections.
