Regarding the March 17 news article “NRA opposition may sink nominee”:
With a moderate perspective on gun rights, an outstanding education and a track record of initiative, collaboration, leadership and entrepreneurship, Vivek Hallegere Murthy has made excellent use of his talents. He would bring practical experience to the job of surgeon general and apply communication skills and scientific knowledge to explain why public health is critical to the nation. His initiative, no doubt, could help lead changes in harmful national habits related to diets, tobacco use and gun safety.
How could that one three letter word — “gun” — become such a stumbling block to his selection?
