Robert McCartney wrongly characterized various disputes about extending Metrorail to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County as a battle between liberals and conservatives [“Liberals should yield on Silver Line labor issue,” Metro, April 1]. No one would label me a liberal, but as a Metro rider I repeatedly have championed the convenient underground station at Dulles that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority had recommended.

To entice commuters out of their automobiles, public transportation must provide a convenient alternative. History will prove that a convoluted aboveground station at Dulles (there’s still time to reject it) will flunk that test.
