The Feb. 10 front-page article “The spat that laid low Olde Belhaven” offered a perfect metaphor for the leadership example set by Congress. The polarization, childish behavior, finger-pointing, unwillingness to compromise and willingness to step off a cliff are all symptoms of the loss of a sense of community set by our elected leaders that is trickling down to leadership in neighborhood associations. There may be a few “winners,” but ultimately we all lose. Perhaps Congress can learn from this story.
