The Aug. 18 editorial “ A poor move ,” about the University of Virginia’s plan to reduce the amount of grants it provides to low-income students, said that a substantial percentage of those grants “is provided by tuition paid by other students.” Some of these “other students” have parents who borrowed money to send their children to college. So they are, in effect, taking out second mortgages and such to send someone else’s child to school. It could take many years to pay off these loans. This is not right .
