The July 13 Metro article “Silver Line exacts a toll on drivers” emphasized the cost to motorists, but this diminishes the larger value of the project — better transportation for all, fewer accidents and clogged roads and less damage to the environment. Yes, drivers will bear the brunt of the cost, but we will also benefit the most from it. I’m not sure why everyone thinks we shouldn’t pay for services we will use.

It is embarrassing that the nation’s capital lacks a good and reliable public transportation system linking all airports to the center of town. The New York City Subway and the T in Boston go much farther than Washington’s system. We should be celebrating the progress of the Silver Line and not complaining about how much it costs.
