Regarding Ian Ayres and William Eskridge’s Feb. 2 Sunday Opinion commentary, “America’s gay hypocrisy”:
If states such as Utah, Arizona, Alabama and Texas want to enact laws that egregiously trample on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, as a gay man I say, let them. And after those states, and any others that wish to join them, have driven these people away — or at least so far underground that not a whiff of gay can be detected, not even by specially trained dogs — homophobes can live there with the certain assurance that they are in control.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will live on planet equality.
