The June 15 Spring All-Met section lauded the accomplishments of local high school athletes and teams with profiles and lots of photos. It made me wonder why The Post does not shower such attention on high school musicians.
Like student athletes who spend many hours practicing before a game or meet, student musicians spend a great deal of time in individual practice and group rehearsal before performing in the hundreds of school orchestra and band concerts that take place each year. The benefits of playing an instrument are indisputable.
The Post could boost the profile of student musicians and their bands and orchestras by recognizing their accomplishments in a Fall or Spring All-Music section. The publicity would also build more community support for school music programs and increase the public’s attendance at concerts.
