I had the privilege to work for Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.), who died last week, as The Post detailed [“Congressman was staunch supporter of the military,” obituaries, Oct. 30]. Mr. Skelton was a true leader, advocate and knowledgeable historian of the U.S. armed forces. However, that is not his entire legacy.

Ike, as we all knew him, proudly represented his beloved 4th District of Missouri, or as he said it, Missouruh. He supported rural development, agriculture and tourism through his work on the House Small Business Committee. Mr. Skelton had strong relationships with the Boy Scouts, Sigma Chi fraternity and the American Lung Association. As a member of Congress, Ike was the real deal. I am pleased to have been his friend.
