Regarding David Ignatius’s Dec. 16 op-ed, “A Syria plan that was bound to fail”:
To blame the Aleppo catastrophe on the Obama administration might be excessive. The United States cannot possibly resolve all existing conflicts. Mistakes can be forgiven, deliberate policy is a different matter.
The Obama administration’s Syria and Iran policies were influenced by its resolve to obtain the nuclear deal with Iran. Many members of the democratic opposition in Syria perished as a result. The future will tell us if it was worth it.
