I am outraged by the cruel actions committed by my government as detailed in the March 5 editorial “Gratuitous cruelty by Homeland Security.” Taking a child from her mother for no reason other than to discourage other immigrants from coming to the United States is reprehensible. I love my country, which gives me the ability to speak out and the American Civil Liberties Union the opportunity to defend asylum seekers, but I wouldn’t blame the mother or daughter in this case if they harbored misgivings about the goodness of the United States.
