It was enlightening to learn that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management does not consider whipping an animal in the face, kicking it in the head, dragging it by a rope around its neck and repeatedly shocking it with electrical prods to be inhumane treatment [“Agency: Treatment of horses not inhumane,” News Digest, Dec. 10].

I’ll remember this the next time a neighbor’s dog squats on my lawn. Accordingly, I have placed an electric prod on my gift wish list.
