Regarding the June 6 Metro article “Georgetown Day buying Tenleytown properties”:
Congratulations to Georgetown Day School for its purchase of the Safeway property at Davenport and 42nd streets in Tenleytown.
Congratulations to Safeway for warding off a protracted battle with neighbors over renovating its property and for saving its time and money rather than engaging in the same sort of battle as the 10-year-old debacle involving a Giant Food store in Cleveland Park.
And congratulations to Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3E for effectively closing down a convenient, competitive grocery store that served the neighborhood well and that I have frequented for 33 years. Now neighborhood residents can drive to shop for groceries in Chevy Chase, Georgetown or Van Ness. Way to go, ANC3E!
