Regarding Chris Marvin’s Nov. 11 op-ed, “You’re welcome”:

I have a more direct way of answering those who thank me for my service as a World War II veteran. In reply to those who say, “Thank you for your service,” which had become a cliche second only to “Have a nice day,” I say, “If you really want to give thanks, go to a veterans cemetery such as Normandy, Tarawa or Arlington. That is where you should really give thanks. Those veterans are the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice to continue our way of life.”
