As I read the Feb. 21 Metro article “Gay man says a priest denied him last rites,” I was horrified that a priest would deny the sacraments to Ronald Plishka because he was gay. However, after reading the entire article, I realized that the priest was just upholding the doctrine of the Catholic Church and that Mr. Plishka’s situation was no different from mine.  

I am a divorced woman who has remarried. That, according to the Catholic Church, is living in sin, and, unless I change my lifestyle, I am therefore not entitled to receive any of the sacraments either. That’s why I am no longer a practicing Catholic.
