Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder recently claimed, “We will never change the name of the team. It’s that simple. NEVER — you can use caps” [Sports, May 10]. Someone needs to remind Mr. Snyder that he won’t live forever, and some day there will be an owner who WILL (that’s where I’d use caps) change the offensive name.
The only question is whether Mr. Snyder will be remembered as someone who was willing to stand up and right this wrong, or as someone who insisted on keeping the status quo (much as George Preston Marshall is remembered for strongly resisting having African American players on his team).
