Steppingstones in the Nationals’ success
Regarding the Oct. 2 Sports article “In defeat comes victory and a joyful celebration”:
As we embrace Bryce Harper, Mike Rizzo, Gio Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg, F.P. Santangelo and all the people associated with our fabulous division champions, we should doff our caps as well to standout contributors who helped make Washington Nationals baseball worth watching when the sports world wasn’t paying much attention.
I saw Livan Hernandez throw that first pitch in 2005 in that rickety, lovable old stadium. And with the champagne flowing, I am thinking as well of unsung players and off-the-field contributors to the fans’ experience, including Chad Cordero, Frank Robinson, Manny Acta, Stan Kasten and Debbi Taylor. And through it all, thankfully, Ryan Zimmerman.
Our team has a real history now; those losing seasons are part of that, and I hope we cherish it.
