The region’s recent weather underscores my hope that, in his efforts to help a vital newspaper survive, The Post’s new owner, Jeff Bezos, won’t forget the last, most important link between the news gatherers and the paper’s readers: the carrier who delivers the news.

The men and women who bring the paper to us before dawn, along sometimes-icy roads, are as expert at their assignment as their newsroom counterparts are at theirs. I’m impressed by the performance of my Fairfax County carrier who doesn’t simply toss the papers from her vehicle but walks the blocks in all sorts of weather, depositing each copy within reach of the customer’s door. I’m grateful for The Post’s delivery and hope that Mr. Bezos does all he can to recognize his carriers’ importance to the paper.
